How do air horns work?
Air horns work by forcing compressed air across a reed at the base of a trumpet-type device that serves to focus the sound in a particular direction. This same principle works in train horns, large truck horns, and also in hand-held devices such as the one we found near the library.
The air horn was invented by Robert Swanson, who patented the device in 1949.
